roman god of agriculture
The planet Saturn was named for the Roman God Saturn who represented agriculture and fertility. He had one son, his name was Jupiter. Jupiter is the planet right next to Saturn. The story of Saturn is that he was originally called Cronus, but when he fled the people changed his name to Saturn. He went to Latium to escape his son Jupiter's wrath.
Saturn's impressive leadership skills soon made him the King of Latium. He was such a great king that people hold him responsible for the best time in Rome. In the myth the Romans refer to it as the Golden Ages. There is even a celebration during the winter to honor him. It is called Saturnalia.
